Peru extends power reform commission term

Peru’s government granted additional time to the multi-sector power reform commission (CRSE) which was established in 2019.

Under the latest modification, CRSE’s term was extended 20 months from July 14, during which time a call could be issued to draft the reform’s white book, according to a resolution.

In 2021, the energy and mines ministry released reports which will form the basis for the white book.

The reports, available here, cover strengthening the institutional framework, transformation of the wholesale market, innovation in distribution, and improving transmission regulation and management.

Amid the overhaul, the government introduced a bill to congress last year to amend law 28832, which governs the guarantee of efficient power generation development.

Proposed changes to the bill, which continues under review at the committee level, look to update the framework for solar and wind.
