Peru eyeing real-time reporting for natural gas distributors

Peru’s government opened consultation for a proposed modification to the norm which establishes guidelines for the real-time reporting of information for the natural gas industry.

The change would incorporate distributors of piped natural gas to the list of companies supervised by energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin that already includes upstream and midstream operators.

The watchdog highlights the growth of existing and planned distribution concessions, driven by the country’s massification policy for the fuel.

“This growth is not only in infrastructure but also in the number of users connected to natural gas, a condition that generates a large amount of data that requires processing to obtain timely information,” according to the regulator.

“The identified problem is that there are limitations for the detection of anomalous conditions of the operation of distribution agents through natural gas pipeline networks.”

Osinergmin adds that supervision of distributors is currently conducted by reviewing reports submitted by companies of the previous day’s operation.
