Peru grants power concessions for combined 530MW

Peru’s energy and mines ministry granted four temporary concessions for renewable energy projects totaling 530MW.

Three of the concessions went to Solarpack for the solar parks Cápac (100MW), Intiorko (150MW) and Sitana (150MW), ministry information shows. Cápac is planned for Moquegua and the latter two for Tacna.

In Peru, Solarpack, now known as Zelestra Energy, is building the 252MW San Martín Solar project through special purpose company Joya Solar.

The other concession went to Kallpa Generación for the 131MW Norteño wind project in Lambayeque.

In July, Kallpa was Peru’s principal electricity producer, accounting for around 20% of the 4,981GWh generated in the month.

The companies now have 24 months to conduct feasibility studies.

A temporary concession allows the use of public property, with the right to obtain temporary rights of way, and may be extended once for up to one year.

The concession holder also has preferential rights to request the definitive concession.
