Peru hydroelectric developer to scale down 259MW project

Bnamericas

Hidroeléctricas Lima has submitted a citizen participation plan (PPC) to Peru’s environmental certification service for sustainable investments (Senace) for the Chontayacu hydroelectric project.

The PPC is part of a proposed modification to the detailed environmental impact study approved in 2019 for the Chontayacu Alto (93MW) and Chontayacu Bajo (166MW) plants.

“After an analysis of the basin and a technical-economic analysis, it has been decided to withdraw the Chontayacu Alto hydroelectric power plant and continue the development of Chontayacu Bajo,” according to information filed by the developer which is working with EDF Perú.

The project would use water from the Chontayacu river, 30km from the town of Uchiza in Huánuco region.

Chontayacu Bajo’s principal components include a machine house, 26m-high dam, water supply tunnel, substation, and transmission line.

The PPC is available in the Documents box in the top right corner.
