Peru oil, natural gas production rebounds in November

Peru’s crude output last month averaged 45,154b/d compared to 37,195b/d in October, information from hydrocarbons licensing authority Perupetro shows.

The 22% jump can be attributed to higher production from the country’s principal oil producer, northern Amazon block 95.

Output at the PetroTal-operated acreage averaged 20,793b/d in November versus 14,990b/d a month earlier. The seasonal rise of river levels would help explain the increase, as PetroTal currently transports most of its oil by barge.

January-September production averaged 40,293b/d versus 38,700b/d for all 2023.

Natural gas production grew 9% sequentially to 42.5Mm3/d in November, approaching this year’s high of 45.1Mm3/d set in September.

The bulk of gas comes from blocks 88 (24Mm3/d), 56 (9.37Mm3/d) and 57 (7.33Mm3/d), with a greater contribution from the latter two.

January-November production averaged 39.7Mm3/d versus 40.1Mm3/d for all 2023.

In other sector developments, Perupetro extended to January 13 the deadline to submit letters of interest in the process to award blocks I and VI.

And the administration board and consultative committee of the development fund for block 95 approved a US$3.3mn mobile connectivity and 4G internet project for 18 communities in Puinahua, Loreto region.

A second project to promote higher technical and university education also was approved for Puinahua.
