Peru power producer submits wind project for environmental permitting

Environmental permitting is underway for the 300MW Shougang wind project in the district of San Juan de Marcona in Peru’s Ica region.

Information from the energy and mines ministry shows that power producer Shougang Generación Eléctrica (Shougesa) has filed a semi-detailed environmental impact study for the farm.

The company owns and operates the San Nicolás 65.75MW diesel-fired plant in Ica.

Shougang would boast 50 turbines and connect to the national grid via a 22km line from a future substation to the El Hierro substation.

Estimated investment is US$349mn and construction is expected to take 20 months.

Power grid coordinator COES is reviewing the pre-operational study which is used to show that a proposed plant and associated transmission infrastructure will not impact the electricity network.
