Peru power watch: Contract awards, project permitting, transmission concession
Peru’s Empresa de Generación Eléctrica San Gabán (EGESG) awarded Atiq Proyectos a 145-day contract to draft the environmental impact declaration (EID) for the 82.5MW Pampa Gallinazos solar project.
The work includes helping secure environmental certification for the photovoltaic park, which is planned for the southern region of Tacna.
Mantaro
Electroperú selected Afry for a 140-day contract to help optimize production at the 1GW Mantaro hydro complex, the country’s largest power generator.
The goal is to pull an additional 1-2m3/s of water from the Colcabamba river to increase output from the 210MW Restitución unit by 2-4MW.
Project permitting
GR Chabarbamba filed the EID for the 170MW Macarena solar project with the energy and mines ministry and Electro Dunas submitted the semi-detailed environmental impact study (EIS) to the ministry for the 220/60/10kV, 120MVA El Ángel substation and 220kV line Independencia-El Ángel.
The EID is available here and the EIS at this link.
Transmission concession
The ministry declared the expiration of the definitive concession for CH Mamacocha’s Mamacocha-Chipmo transmission line project.
The decision was taken after the developer informed the ministry that the project was unfeasible.
Although additional information was not provided, the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes issued a ruling in December 2023 in favor of the government against a claim by CH Mamacocha involving the 20MW Mamacocha hydro project.
CH Mamacocha alleged interference by central and regional authorities related to environmental permitting and contractual issues.
