Peru to increase oversight of gas, power service quality
Peru’s energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin opened consultation for a proposal to further protect users of regulated public services, including natural gas and power.
“The current regulatory scheme does not allow for the observation of the performance of companies in complying with commercial management quality requirements,” according to the watchdog.
The oversight is related to requests for the suspension or cancellation of such services.
Osinergmin contends that “this situation constitutes a significant problem for the public interest, since it has a direct impact on the wellbeing of consumers; through reduced satisfaction in their interaction with supplier companies, loss of confidence in the regulatory system and its institutions.
“Likewise, companies that provide energy services may see their reputation affected and incur higher costs to face complaints from dissatisfied users,” it adds,
The proposal and supporting arguments are available in the Documents box in the top-right corner of the screen.
