Peru to study renewables’ grid impact as new solar concession granted

Peru’s energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin launched bidding to evaluate the norm associated with the control of disturbances at wind and solar plants.

“Due to the increasing participation of these plants in recent years and the execution of new projects expected in the medium and long term, a study is required to evaluate the current regulation for the entry of new plants and, if applicable, propose improvements that ensure adequate control of disturbances,” according to the watchdog.

Osinergmin also issued calls to evaluate risks of power generation activity and analyze operational inflexibility of generation units.

Procurement information is available here, using codes 51-2024-OSINERGMIN, 35-2024-OSINERGMIN and 35-2024-OSINERGMIN (place the code in the Sigla Nomenclatura box after clicking on Búsqueda Avanzada).

New concession

Meanwhile, the energy and mines ministry granted Kallpa Generación a temporary concession for the 356.4MW Sunny III solar project in La Joya, Arequipa region.

Kallpa, the country’s principal power producer, requested the concession in September and now has 24 months to conduct feasibility studies.

In recent days, the company picked up temporary concessions for solar projects CSF Pampa Salinas I and CSF Pampa Salinas II, each of 234MW and planned for the southern region of Moquegua.
