Peru tweaks power transmission plan

Peru’s power grid coordinator COES has updated its 2025-34 power transmission plan proposal following stakeholder input.

One change is the amount of investment for “binding” projects starting in 2025-26 and estimated to come online by 2030, and long-term projects.

The latest proposal raises the near-term infrastructure to US$653mn from US$576mn and lowers the long-term work to US$656mn from US$693mn.

A final proposal is due to be published in September after energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin submits observations in July. Following a final review by Osinergmin, the plan would require approval from the energy and mines ministry, expected by year-end.

The updated and previous proposals are available in the Documents box in the top right corner.

In other Peru dispatch developments, investment promotion agency ProInversión added a concession to its project portfolio that would span the regions of Huanuco, La Libertad, Puno and Ucayali.

The transmission package is for 138kV links Nueva Virú-Trujillo Sur, Yaros-Amarilis and San Román-Yocara-Maravilla, and associated substations.

And lawmakers introduced a bill to congress to declare of public need and national interest the reinforcement of the 220kV Tarapoto-Bellavista-Tingo Maria line and the construction of the Picota substation. The initiative also is available in the Documents box.
