Peru’s Cálidda tweaks gas concession extension proposal
Peru’s principal natural gas distributor Cálidda has further defined its proposal to extend its 33-year concession contract by 10 years starting in 2033.
BNamericas previously reported that the Grupo Energía Bogotá-controlled company seeks to add new areas beyond its coverage area, which currently covers Lima and Callao.
In an updated draft addendum submitted to the energy and mines ministry, Cálidda established a minimum of effective connections for new areas (see table below), versus potential clients in the original proposal.
The gas would come in the form of LNG or compressed natural gas from third parties, and in the case of Huamanga and Pucallpa, supply could also come from the Huamanga gas transport system or block 31-C.
The updated and original proposals are in the Documents box in the top right corner.
THE NUMBERS
This year, Cálidda expects to hit 1.9-2 million connections with the addition of 170,000-180,000 connections and to expand its network, which totaled 17,674km at the end of the second quarter, by 950km.
According to the distributor, its network penetration ratio stood at 78% at the end of June.
As of June 30, the company had around 1.88mn clients in the residential and commercial segment, as well as 877 industries, 294 natural gas vehicle (NGV) stations and 31 power generators as customers.
Cálidda’s sales volume last quarter slid 3.4% year-on-year to 800Mf3/d, which the company attributed to greater “extraordinary” demand in 2023, offset by increased offtake in the industrial, NGV, and residential and commercial sectors.
The bulk of 2Q24 gas went to electricity generators (68%), followed by industrial users (18%), NGV (9.5%) and residential and commercial customers (4.25%).
