Peru’s Chancay megaport, a US$3.6bn project north of Lima, continues to advance at a good pace with boring of the tunnel that will connect the port with the access complex completed.

Cosco Shipping Ports Chancay Perú (CSPCP), the company in charge of construction and which is owned 40% by Peru’s Inversiones Portuarias Chancay (IPCH) and the other 60% by China’s Cosco Shipping Ports, reported via social networks the connection between both ends of the 1.8km tunnel (see image).

At the end of the first half of 2024, the company said the first phase of Chancay – valued at US$1.3bn – reported general progress of 86.5% and 81.1% for the tunnel works. Although progress is now greater, the paving, lighting and fittings are still pending.

The first phase of the port will be inaugurated in November within the framework of the APEC Summit, and commercial operations will begin in January 2025.
