Peru’s temporary concessions near 1GW with latest project

Peru’s energy and mines ministry granted a temporary concession for a 170MW solar project in Ica region that takes the number of such concessions issued this year to 988MW.

GR Chabarbamba, a special purpose company established by Madrid-based Grenergy, filed the concession request for the Macarena park in January, ministry information shows.

The company now has 24 months to conduct feasibility studies in Marcona district, Nazca province, for the project, whose pre-operational study is under review by grid coordinator COES.

Grenergy recently picked up a temporary concession for the 150MW Girasol solar project in the neighboring region of Moquegua.

The other temporary concessions granted by the ministry year to date are for wind projects Vientos de Negritos II (150MW), Amara (252MW) and Bomberos (265.5MW).

A temporary concession allows the use of public property, with the right to obtain temporary rights of way, and may be extended once for up to one year. The concession holder also has preferential rights to request the definitive concession.

If the developer fails to carry out the studies within the allotted timeframe, the ministry will cash in the project deposit.
