With the aim of inspecting the progress of the works at the Chancay megaport , the Vice Minister of Transportation, Ismael Sutta , together with the president of the National Port Authority, Juan Carlos Paz, and a delegation from the Executive carried out a supervision visit to the new terminal port, located in Huaral, which presents a progress of 74%.
This multipurpose terminal is key to turning Peru into the maritime hub of the South Pacific towards Asia. This will allow other Latin American countries to bring their merchandise to our country to achieve direct delivery to China, because it will imply savings in costs and delivery times.
“Today we have verified that the tunnel that goes from the Special Zone of Chancay to the port has made great progress. It is practically finished, as are the ports. We have the start date of operations in November of this year, meeting the established deadlines,” explained Vice Minister Sutta.
Importantly, the Chancay terminal will have the capacity to dock the largest cargo ships in the world, which can carry more than 18,000 containers. In a first stage, it will have four docks, 1,500 meters long in total; However, in the future there could be 15.
The heads of Midis, Julio Demartini, also participated in the visit; from Mincetur, Elizabet Galdo; from Produce, Sergio Gonzales; and for Women, Ángela Hernández; as well as Congresswoman Kira Alcarraz, representatives of the Cosco Shipping Ports company and local authorities in the area.
Installation of Multisector Commission
Prior to the supervision of works, the Multisectoral Commission of the Multipurpose Port of Chancay was installed, in which the Executive sectors participate. Present on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications were Vice Minister Ismael Sutta and the President of the National Port Authority, Juan Carlos Paz.
Through this initiative promoted by the Government, the aim is to propose actions and promote development and social inclusion with a territorial focus in the area of influence of the megaport.
Vice Minister Sutta highlighted the importance of implementing these working groups that will help promote interventions in favor of the citizens of Chancay. "On the part of the MTC, we have a package of works that will be carried out in the coming years to improve connectivity around the new Chancay megaport, which will mean an investment that exceeds 300 million dollars," he said.
