Petrobras committee approves appointment of new CEO
Petrobras' eligibility committee (Celeg) approved the appointment of Magda Chambriard to the board and as CEO of the Brazilian oil company.
On Friday, Chambriard's appointment will be considered during a meeting of the state-run firm's board.
An engineer and former head of oil and gas watchdog ANP, Chambriard was recently appointed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to replace Jean Paul Prates at the helm of the federal oil giant.
She is a fierce advocate of exploration of the geologically promising but environmentally sensitive Equatorial Margin, which is deemed critical in the face of a possible decline in national output from 2030.
The new CEO is expected to emphasize the need to increase oil production while accelerating investments in the construction of offshore production platforms and support vessels in local shipyards, as well as in refineries and fertilizer plants.
