Petrobras' PLSV fleet likely to be re-hired

Brazil’s federal oil company Petrobras is likely to re-hire its entire fleet of pipelay support vessels (PLSV) through a series of bidding processes that are underway, a source close to the subject told BNamericas.

The firm has the world’s largest contracted fleet, with 17 vessels owned by DOF, TechnipFMC, Subsea 7 and Sapura.

Most of these contracts are due to expire by 2025.

The lots of new FPSOs scheduled to arrive and offshore decommissioning demands will probably require an expansion of the fleet. And, given the development of large offshore undertakings in Guyana and West Africa, Petrobras is seen rushing to assure access to vessels at competitive prices.

The company has launched a large tender divided into several lots, whose details are available via its procurement website Petronect.

According to local sources, companies like Solstad, in partnership with Saipem, and Ocyan are mulling submitting bids, besides the PLSV operators that currently have contracts with Petrobras.
