Petrobras starts deepwater production test in Sergipe-Alagoas basin
Brazil's state oil company Petrobras began production from the long duration test of the Farfan discovery, located in the deepwater BM-SEAL-11 block in the Sergipe-Alagoas basin, the firm said in a statement on Thursday.
The test, which is due to last 180 days, is designed to help define the next steps in the area. The test is the first in ultra-deep waters off Brazil’s northeast region, as so far attention has been focused on the Campos and Santos basins in the southeast. The well is in water depth of 2,500m, the deepest Petrobras has produced from so far.
Petrobras is using the FPSO Cidade de São Vicente for the work. The expectation is that production during the test will amount to 7,000b/d of oil and 500,000m3/d of natural gas.
The company intends to install a unit with capacity to produce 100,000b/d in the area by 2024, according to its latest investment plan.
