Release from the Presidency of Uruguay

The National Ports Administration (ANP) presented the automation works and improvements in control of access to Montevideo terminal, which include the installation of scales and scanners, as well as the incorporation of the railroad, after an investment of US$10 million. The president of the organization, Juan Curbelo, highlighted that these works are key to the development of port activity in Uruguay.

The event, held on the morning of this Thursday, June 27 at the Costanero hotel, was also attended by representatives of the company CSI Ciemsa, who are in charge of the work to be carried out, and the technical teams of the ANP.

The objective of the automation and improvement project in the control of northern access to the port of Montevideo is to continue with the development of that terminal to make it intelligent. For this purpose, a new monitoring system will be implemented, which will operate automatically 24 hours a day, in interaction with those of the ANP and the National Customs Directorate.

Curbelo said that these works are essential to modernize the terminal, through the incorporation of cutting-edge technology and the automation of checkpoints. For this purpose, 16 input and output scales and equipment will be integrated, such as video cameras, totems, electromechanical barriers, traffic lights, antennas, industrial computers, switches and an operations monitoring center, he said.

The work, which will begin in the coming weeks and is expected to be completed in the first few months of 2025, after an investment of US$10 million, will improve flow and circulation, as well as limit entry and exit times to the facility. In addition, centralized information will be available in standard format for 100% of the cargo vehicles that enter and leave.

In the Montevideo port there was a record movement of containers and different types of cargo in recent years and the pace continued to grow in the first half of 2024, so these infrastructure works are key to continue the development of the activity and the positioning of the terminal as a logistics center for the region, Curbelo stated.
