The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) reported that the current portfolio of rural electrification projects until 2023 for the northern regions of the country contemplates investments of more than S/ 1,196 million, for the direct benefit of 445,900 citizens, who belong to a total of 4,038 locations.

The General Directorate of Rural Electrification (DGER) of the MINEM, indicates that, to date, the electrification of 86% of the country's rural areas has been completed, and the objective that is sought to be achieved with the progress of the works is to reach a rural electricity coverage of 93% of homes located in remote and difficult-to-access sectors by the end of 2023.

Among the northern part of the country, the Loreto region stands out, where rural electrification projects are being developed with a global investment of S/ 351.9 million, benefiting more than 63 thousand inhabitants of 867 communities in the provinces of Loreto, Alto Amazonas, Datem del Marañón, Requena, Maynas, Putumayo and Ramón Castilla.

Likewise, in the Cajamarca region, projects will be executed for an investment of S/ 329.3 million, which will benefit 243,000 inhabitants of a total of 1,391 localities with electric service in the provinces of Cajamarca, Chota, Hualgayoc, Santa Cruz, Cutervo, Jaen, San Ignacio and Celendin.

The Amazonas region also stands out in this list, since rural electrification works will be carried out in that region with an investment of S/ 201.6 million, benefiting 16,700 residents of 182 towns in the provinces of Bagua, Condorcanqui, Bongará, Chachapoyas, Luya , Utcubamba and Rodríguez de Mendoza.

The list of benefited regions also includes: Áncash, Cajamarca, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Piura, San Martín, Tumbes, among others.

The MINEM remarked that the development of rural electrification projects is a priority for the government, since they directly affect the improvement of the quality of life of the beneficiary population, as well as the promotion of their productive activities and the industrialization of remote areas. of the country, generating new development opportunities.
