Portuguese firm advances 200MW Colombia solar project

Portugal's Grupo Procme has submitted an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for its 200MW Villavieja solar park in southern Colombia, according to documents seen by BNamericas.

Earmarked for the Villavieja area of Huila department, around 300km southwest of capital Bogotá, the project is expected to require capital investment of 800bn pesos (around US$200mn).

According to its website, Procme's principal activities include the "promotion, licensing and operation" of renewable energy plants under EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) project models.

Its asset portfolio comprises solar, hydroelectric, wind and biomass plants in Portugal, Spain and France.

Colombia's total installed solar capacity currently stands at 1,250MW, representing around 6% of its 20,725MW installed capacity, according to grid operator XM.
