Prequalification for Ecuador geothermal project pushed back

Ecuador’s state power corporation Celec extended prequalification to advance the 50MW Chachimbiro geothermal project in San Miguel de Urcuquí, Imbabura province.

The new deadline is January 19, according to a Celec update.

The contract is for the engineering, supervision, construction and commissioning of a wellhead plant of up to 5MW as part of the project’s first phase.

Meanwhile, Celec began testing the 68MW unit 2 of the 204MW Alluriquín plant as part of the 254.4MW Toachi Pilatón hydro complex.

In recent weeks, Alluriquín’s unit 3, also 68MW, entered service, while testing of the 68MW unit 1 is due to begin in the coming days.
