President Alberto Fernández toured today, together with the Minister of Public Works, Gabriel Katopodis, the works in the Buenos Aires town of San Miguel del Monte for the transformation of National Route No. 3 into a Highway on the Cañuelas-Azul route.
“In these four years we set our sights especially on public works because it is the great engine that moves the economy, and we are convinced that it is necessary to be able to think about a more federal development,” the president remarked.
The head of state explained that it is a “route that is very important for the province of Buenos Aires ” and recalled that “the previous Government had thought of doing it with the Public Private Participation (PPP) system, which was a scam because when We took charge in 2019, all the works cost 70 percent less than what the State was going to pay in those PPPs.”
During the tour of the San Miguel del Monte-Gorchs section, which will double the road along 26.2 kilometers with an investment by the national government of 23,353 million pesos, the President was also accompanied by the mayor of Las Flores, Alberto Gelené; the general deputy administrator of National Roads, Alejandro Urdampilleta, and the head of the 1st Buenos Aires Roads District, Marily Rivero.
For his part, Katopodis pointed out that National Route No. 3 “is one of the most important routes for the production and economic development of Argentina” and explained that “all the heavy transportation from the port of Bahía Blanca, everything that It has to do with the stone and cement of Olavarría, and everything that comes from the south goes through that path.”
The project to transform the RN 3 into a highway consists of 14 sections, covering an area of 211.7 km, which will be added to the 35 km that are already a highway between Cañuelas and San Miguel del Monte. So far, there are four sections under construction for a total of 48.6 km.
The duplication of the roadway also includes the construction of 11 bridges in total: one over the California Creek, two over the Salado River and three overflow bridges; in addition to five distributors in height: one for access to the town of Zenón Videla Dorna and four for returns.
