The green hydrogen plant in Arequipa is a project of national interest that already has the authorizations to be developed and begin production that will benefit the entire country. Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen made the official announcement after an important meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
The Prime Minister, together with the regional governor of Arequipa, Rohel Sánchez Sánchez, received the investors from Phelan Green Energy at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. They will carry out the project on an area of 4,000 hectares in the La Joya desert in Arequipa.
The land belongs to the Ministry of Defense and, thanks to the efforts of Governor Rohel Sánchez, an exchange will be made so that it will be ceded for the construction of the plant; while the Regional Government of Arequipa will cede 4,500 hectares near the Corío area, in Islay, where the Megapuerto de las Américas will be developed.
According to the prime minister, the businessmen will invest 2.3 billion dollars in the project, which will be carried out in three stages. He also reported that the green hydrogen plant will generate approximately 180 megawatts of energy through the 3 million solar panels that are planned to be installed.
Green hydrogen is the most environmentally friendly energy generation, and the construction of the plant in Arequipa will be the first and largest in all of South America.
