Bnamericas
Barbados' prime minister, Freundel Stuart, has brokered a compromise to end the immediate threat of a strike by the Barbados Workers' Union (BWU) against LIME, the Caribbean unit of Cable & Wireless Communications ( C&WC), media outlet Caribseek reported. The agreement must now be approved by LIME's controllers. The details of the compromise, reached after a 10-hour meeting at government headquarters, were not revealed. The union has been in negotiations with LIME, proposing a 17% salary increase. The company countered the proposal with a 7% pay hike, which the union rejected, according to press reports.
