Prior consultation advancing for Peru block 8

The information stage or step four of prior consultation for the temporary operation of Peru hydrocarbons block 8 is scheduled to take place in August.

Informative meetings will be held for indigenous communities in the districts of Urarinas, Trompeteros, Tigre, Parinari and Nauta in northern Amazon region Loreto, according to information from hydrocarbons licensing authority Perupetro.

Last month, the government agency and communities of the Achuar, Urarinas, Kukama Kukamiria and Kichwa indigenous groups agreed to the consultation.

The country’s prior consultation law consists of seven phases or steps, with the stage from the presentation of the consultation plan (step 3) to dialogue (step 6) not exceeding 120 days.

BNamericas previously reported that PetroTal was in the running to take over block 8. Information regarding whether a decision has been taken has not been disclosed.

Perupetro also released the technical report of the citizen participation plan for the acreage.

In a related development, Perupetro participated in the establishment of a technical work group (pictured) of the “Cuatro Cuencas” in Loreto region to monitor prior consultation agreements for block 192 related to health, housing, and education.
