Production boost planned for Peru’s principal crude contributor
Upstream operator PetroTal looks to add a new drilling platform at Peru’s principal oil producer, block 95 in the northern jungle region of Loreto.
Information from the environmental certification service for sustainable investments (Senace) shows that the company filed a modification to the detailed environmental impact study for the development of the Bretaña Norte field.
The change includes incorporating the L2-Sur rig to drill 32 producing and eight water injection wells, as well as eight wells each at platforms L-2 and L-2 Oeste.
Estimated investment through 2042 is US$260mn.
The goal is to increase crude output to 50,000b/d, according to PetroTal, which highlights that the modification stems from new field studies.
Through July 23 this year, block 95 has averaged 18,398b/d or 45% of Peru’s total output, according to data from hydrocarbons licensing authority Perupetro.
