Progress in the Toachi Pilatón Hydroelectric Project: Unit 3 of the Alluriquín Power Plant is preparing for electrical tests
The following is a machine translation of a Ministry of Energy and Mines release
The Alluriquín power plant is made up of three generation units of 68 MW each, and will incorporate 204 MW into the National Interconnected System.
The Toachi Pilatón hydroelectric project, a key project for Ecuador's energy development, is moving towards its operationalization. On November 29, mechanical tests were completed at Unit No. 3 of the Alluriquín hydroelectric plant, which will contribute 68 megawatts (MW) to the production of electric energy.
During these tests, known as "mechanical rotation," it was verified that there were no abnormal movements or friction that could compromise the performance of the unit or cause future damage. With these satisfactory results, a new phase of electrical tests will now begin that will evaluate the unit's capacity to be integrated into the National Interconnected System.
This unit is expected to start supplying 68 MW in December. The remaining two units of the Alluriquín plant will be activated progressively, with the aim of reaching a capacity of 204 MW in 2025.
At the same time, the process of filling the reservoir on the Toachi River continues, which has reached a level of 948 meters above sea level (masl). The minimum operating level of the reservoir is 965 masl. The National Government is working in a committed manner to strengthen the Ecuadorian Energy System, through firm and responsible decisions that lead to the incorporation of additional energy in order to increase the generation capacity and strengthen the value chain of the electric sector.
