In order to provide more facilities to tourism and benefit the various economic activities in the region, the Private Investment Promotion agency – PROINVERSIÓN and the Municipality of Cusco presented the project “Creation of the Bypass of the City of Cusco”.
The project commissioned by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) through Provías Nacional will directly benefit 430 thousand residents. It will have a length of 14.11 kilometers that will run through the districts of San Sebastián, Wanchaq, Santiago, Cusco and Poroy, forming part of the Longitudinal Highway of the Sierra Sur.
Emerson Castro, director of ProInversión's Project Portfolio, highlighted that the work will be possible thanks to the coordination with various authorities, congratulating the management of the mayor of Cusco.
For his part, Luis Pantoja Calvo, mayor of Cusco, pointed out that the construction of the Cusco Avoidance Road will contribute to the territorial and regional integration of the southern economic corridor and will help the reorganization and rationalization of urban traffic. In addition, he highlighted that the Vía de Evitamiento project is the most ambitious road work and is part of other projects that will be developed in the Archaeological City.
With an estimated investment of US$ 894 million, the city authorities hope to improve traffic in the Cusco region, contributing to a more fluid commercial relationship, also facilitating access for the population of the area of influence to national and regional markets. and local.
The project includes 3 sections: Agua Buena Bridge – Terrestrial Terminal, Terrestrial Terminal – Ovalo Miguel Grau and Ovalo Miguel Grau – Poroy, heading to the new Chincheros airport and/or the Sacred Valley of the Incas (Urubamba).
For his part, Luis Huamán Zárate, technical advisor of the PROINVERSIÓN project, maintained that the work will positively impact the residents of Cusco, because it will considerably reduce traffic and travel time within the city.
The work will have access ramps, a 4-kilometer twin tunnel, viaducts, bridges and two road interchanges, one of 3 kilometers between the Wanchaq Land Terminal and the Pachacútec oval; The other will be located along the Miguel Grau oval, and access and exit ramps.
