The Private Investment Promotion Agency – PROINVERSIÓN was commissioned by the Ministry of Energy and Mines – MINEM to promote and tender a new package of 16 electric transmission projects and associated substations for US$ 896 million that will benefit 8 million inhabitants.
This group corresponds to the 2025-2034 Transmission Plan that will seek to strengthen the infrastructure of the National Interconnected Electric System and supply to end users in 13 regions: Ayacucho, Cusco, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Madre de Dios, Piura, Puno, San Martín, Tacna and Ucayali.
Among the 16 projects are key initiatives such as the “500 kV Colectora-Bicentenario-Chilca link, extensions and associated substations”, “500 kV Miguel Grau – Pariñas link and SE Pariñas 500/220 kV, extensions and associated substations”, “220 kV Tintaya Nueva – Nueva San Gabán link, extensions and associated substations” and “220 kV Miguel Grau – Sullana link, extensions and associated substations (ITC)”.
Regarding this new assignment, PROINVERSIÓN Project Director, Anibal del Aguila, stated that the Transmission Connection Facilities (ITC) currently dominate the Transmission Plan, because they provide quality to the supply at the voltage level of distribution companies and will directly benefit end users.
The 2025-2034 Transmission Plan will be in force from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026 (RM Nº483-2024-MINEM/DM) through a centralized analysis that identifies the equipment requirements to guarantee the quality, reliability and economy of the system in a 10-year horizon, where it will recommend transmission works to meet future demand for electric energy.
Anibal del Aguila said that the national electrical system has reached maturity in different stages of infrastructure development: planning, promotion, execution, operation and maintenance.
Likewise, the MINEM in coordination with PROINVERSIÓN will continue promoting electrical projects that seek to attract private investment through Public-Private Partnerships to strengthen the country's electrical capacity.
In the last 25 months, PROINVERSIÓN awarded 21 transmission and electrical substation projects, for an investment amount of US$ 2,266 million, which will boost economic activities and benefit 14 million Peruvians. This package closes at the end of February, with the award of Group 3, which includes four transmission projects, for US$ 168 million.
