ProInversión will award 12 electrical projects for US$ 676 million between August and December 2024

Between August and December 2024, the Private Investment Promotion Agency – PROINVERSIÓN will award 12 electrical transmission and substation projects, commissioned by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), which will benefit 7 million residents with an investment of US$ 676 million.

The 12 projects grouped into Group 2, 3 and 4 of electric power transmission and substations will have an impact on the domestic sector, productive, commercial and service activities in Lima, Ica, Ayacucho, Arequipa, Apurímac, Puno, Ancash and Ucayali.

According to the schedule, Group 2 will be awarded at the end of August, which includes five transmission and electrical substation projects that require US$ 441 million and will benefit 4 million people in Lima, Ica and Ayacucho.

This process is of interest to three bidders and includes the “Chilca CTM-Carabayllo 500 kV Transmission Line - Third Circuit”; “New Bicentennial 500/220 kV Substation”; “Reconfiguration of the Chavarría – Santa Rosa – Carapongo 220 kV Link”; “New Muyurina 220 kV Substation, New Ayacucho Substation, LT 220 kV Muyurina-Ayacucho”; and “Expansion of the Ica Electric System Supply Capacity (ITC Project)”.

Then, in September, five interested parties will compete for Group 3, which includes four other electrical projects that require US$ 134 million to benefit 2.3 million residents of Apurímac, Arequipa, Puno and Lima. This package includes the “New Palca 220 kV Substation, LT 220 kV Palca-La Pascana (Arequipa)”; “220 kV Planicie – Industriales Link (Lima)”, “138 kV Abancay Nueva – Andahuaylas Link (Apurímac)” and “138 kV San Rafael – Ananea Diversion Link (Puno)”.

Meanwhile, Group 4, which includes three other projects, will be awarded in December with an approximate investment of US$ 101 million, benefiting 700 thousand people from Ucayali (Padre Abad and Coronel Portillo), Junín (Chanchamayo) and Ancash (Huaylas and Huaraz). This group includes the projects “220 kV Aguaytía – Pucallpa Link”, “Increase in the 138-60KV Reliability of the Tarma – Chanchamayo Electric System” and “Increase in the Capacity and Reliability of the Huaraz Electric System Supply. Huaylas and Huaraz”.

The contracts planned for the end of 2024 are part of the package of 18 electricity transmission projects that the Ministry of Energy and Mines commissioned to PROINVERSIÓN in February 2023 within the framework of the 2023-2032 Transmission Plan to be promoted through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). In this case, Group 1, made up of three projects (US$ 329 million), was awarded in June and will benefit one million people in Ica and Arequipa.
