Project to land gas onshore pitched for Jamaica
There is the potential to land natural gas onshore Jamaica from the country’s Walton-Morant block to supply local demand, according to United Oil & Gas (UOG).
The LSE-listed upstream operator holds an exploration license for the offshore acreage which covers 22,400km2.
In a presentation to investors, the company highlights that the area boasts an active hydrocarbons system with mean/mid-case prospective resources of 7Bb identified to date that could be developed using FPSOs, such as Stabroek in Guyana, it said.
One offtaker pointed out by UOG would be the Caribbean nation’s thermoelectric park which accounts for around 90% of power generation capacity and is supplied by imported gas and oil.
Other opportunities include state refiner Petrojam and the bauxite mining industry.
UOG’s work program for Walton-Morant includes sampling and seismic reprocessing, and a “drill-or-drop” decision by 2026 with commitment to drill one well in two-year phase two exploration term before 2028.
The presentation is available in the Documents box in the top-right corner of the screen.
