Puerto Rico to fast-track latest renewable energy call

Puerto Rico’s energy regulator PREB issued a call for tranche 4 of the government’s renewable energy and storage procurement process.

The launch follows the cancellation of tranche 3, prices for which exceeded reasonable levels.

Tranche 4 will have a limited scope and expedited timeframe with offers due by November 25 and accepted contracts scheduled to be submitted to the watchdog at the end of December.

Renewable resource contracts will run for 25 years and 20 years for standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The price caps will be US$125/MWh for renewable resources, US$25,000/MW-month for four-hour BESS and US$33,750/MW-month for six-hour BESS.

Project details bid in tranche 3 will automatically be imported into the new interconnection request and tranche 4 websites, available here and at this link, respectively.

Interconnection requests must be submitted before starting a tranche 4 proposal.
