Quito gets 2 bids to operate 1st metro line

Metro de Quito received two offers in a tender to select an international operator for the Ecuadoran capital’s first metro line, which cost more than US$2bn to build.

The consortium made up of French company Transdev and Metro de Medellín once again submitted an offer, and another was from Metrô de São Paulo, Quito de Metro operations manager Roberto Custode confirmed for BNamericas.

The Transdev-Metro de Medellín consortium was selected in July for the contract but at the beginning of this month Metro de Quito relaunched the process after the group requested a price adjustment for inflation.

Custode added that the final evaluation report will be presented in the first week of September.

The contract is expected to be signed in October. The 23km line has 15 stations.
