Reactivation underway at Peru block 64

The Morona base camp at Peru block 64 is back in operation as part of plans to reactivate the upstream acreage.

National oil company Petroperú provided the update for the area which is in the northeast Amazon region of Loreto near block 192, on the border with Ecuador.

The NOC also reported that as part of environmental permitting, flora and fauna collection permit requests were filed with the national forestry and wildlife service SERFOR and the production ministry, with a favorable opinion to date from SERFOR.

The 2.94bn-sol (US$794mn) Situche Central project envisions putting into production crude oil reserves of 55Mb. Petroperú would inject an estimated 695mn soles and a partner the balance.

Of Petroperú’s share, nearly 98mn soles have already been spent on project management and investment bank advisory services, among other areas.

The government approved the transfer of GeoPark Perú’s participation in the license to Petroperú in 2021 following the private operator’s withdrawal from the block due to extended force majeure.

The block appears as “active” in the ombudsman’s latest social conflicts report.
