Recope implements Energy Management System in Moín and saves ₡175 million a year
The following is a machine translation of a Recope release
The implementation of the Energy Management System (SGen) at the Recope terminal in Moín, Limón, allows the Company and the country to save approximately ₡175 million per year.
This system not only generates economic savings, but also allows for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by reducing and controlling energy consumption, promoting the use of clean energy and improving the effectiveness of energy consumption.
The Energy Management System is one of the actions established in the Business Strategic Plan to meet the Governance objective of “guaranteeing the supply of fuels in the country in an efficient, timely, safe and environmentally responsible manner”. In this way, national and sectoral public policies are complied with.
At the end of 2023, Recope was recertified under the INTE/ISO 50001:2018 standard of the Technical Standards Institute of Costa Rica (Inteco), which reflects that the Company complies with the requirements for storage, processing and supply of fuels, asphalts and naphthas, as well as support and administrative activities related to the Energy Management System. This recertification will be valid until 2026.
“Recope has been making efforts in multiple areas to maximize its efficiency. The Energy Management System at the Moín terminal is an example of the work being done to reduce energy consumption and costs,” said Karla Montero, president of Recope.
The SGen involves the Distribution, Production and Importation and Risk Prevention and Environmental Management departments, as well as the Caribbean Regional Maintenance Department and the Technical Services Management, which through detailed joint work implement actions to maintain a cycle of continuous improvement in the use of energy.
With these advances, Recope reaffirms its commitment to economic and energy efficiency and sustainability.
