Denver, Red Hat Summit 2024. May 16, 2024 . Red Hat, Inc., the open source solutions provider, today announced that AGESIC, responsible for leading e-government strategy and implementation, adopted Red Hat OpenShift AI and Red Hat OpenShift to expand, scale and standardize the use of AI in all agencies of the Uruguayan government. Together with Red Hat, the public entity was able to carry out the country's AI strategy and provide its teams with a uniform hybrid AI/ML platform that allows them to create, host models, and provide innovative applications.
AGESIC's goal was to expand the capabilities of its AI platform with Red Hat OpenShift AI, a flexible and scalable MLOps platform for building, deploying, and managing AI-based applications in diverse environments. Being the main driver of IT innovation in the country and having so many government agencies that depend on its guidance in this matter, it was essential for AGESIC to have the possibility of collaborating within the same environment that was more uniform, scalable and that offered security. reinforced. With Red Hat OpenShift AI, the institution began to automate the process of creating and developing its AI models and managing its cycles, which made it possible to standardize the use of AI in all government agencies in Uruguay.
“For many companies around the world, artificial intelligence has become a transformative force, revolutionizing the way we work and introducing new possibilities almost daily. By combining the power of Red Hat OpenShift with Red Hat OpenShift AI, AGESIC users gain the flexibility to explore opportunities to innovate in AI throughout Uruguay, while maintaining AGESIC standards and processes for the use of AI. The work that Red Hat does with AGESIC is a testament to our dedication to improving the user experience of our clients and theirs,” said Jorge Payró, Red Hat Country Manager for Argentina.
AGESIC embarked on its digital transformation journey with the transition from on-premises data centers to a private cloud. The agency already offered support and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), as well as different Software as a Service (SaaS) style digital government solutions to more than 180 government entities throughout the country.
Once it migrated to the cloud, AGESIC optimized its infrastructure for AI with Red Hat OpenShift – the industry-leading hybrid cloud application platform powered by Kubernetes – helping to manage workloads and automate agency processes according to a container-based approach. This allowed it to centralize development, operations and systems security functions on a single platform.
By choosing Red Hat OpenShift, AGESIC was able to modify its offerings to include Platform as a Service (PaaS). This allowed other Uruguayan government agencies to develop, run and manage applications without having to deal with the complexity of creating and maintaining application infrastructure. Using Red Hat OpenShift technology, AGESIC users were able to shorten the manual support ticket process and create a new automated platform capable of resolving tickets in less than one percent of the time taken by the manual process.
AGESIC turned to Red Hat Training to learn MLOps practices that complement its current DevOps processes and acquire the necessary knowledge to appropriately scale and democratize AI. As an advantage, the Uruguayan entity obtained a new dynamic between data scientists, developers of software and IT operations so that ML models can be quickly integrated into application development.
Currently, AGESIC works with national agencies to promote the incorporation of AI in specific applications. Looking ahead, the agency will continue its work with Red Hat to explore how it can use other technologies, such as Red Hat 3Scale and Red Hat Data Foundation, to foster innovation in the public sector.
