Haitian regulator Conatel has authorized mobile telephony operator Comcel to upgrade its existing GSM network infrastructure to a 3G network, local press reported. Comcel, which operates under the Voila brand, plans to invest some US$40mn over the next three years to launch and expand its 3G mobile service across the country, according to reports. The operator was green-lighted to launch 3G through an addendum to its contract, originally signed in August 2005. Comcel's parent company is US firm Trilogy International.
