Regulator intervenes in Emprelpaz

Bnamericas
Bolivia's electricity regulator has intervened in the La Paz rural distributor Emprelpaz because it cannot pay for electric power purchases from local distributor Electropaz, according to local press. The regulator has appointed Juan Manuel Aguirre to run the company for one year and bring it back to financial good health. Emprelpaz has failed to make payments for power in April and May, totaling some US$204,000, and Electropaz cut power supplies for three days in early May, and again on June 11. Last weekend, local residents blocked highways to demand the removal of Emprelpaz general manager Tiburcio Mamani, who is accused of bad management practices.
