Repsol planning investment in Peru's La Pampilla refinery

Spanish oil company Repsol is preparing an investment in its La Pampilla refinery in Peru. 

To optimize fuel fractionation processes, the installation of a new pump is proposed in the fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) unit at the main plant in Ventanilla, north of Lima.

That is stated by the company in documentation sent to environmental review agency Senace. On July 9, Repsol’s Peruvian subsidiary presented a sustaining technical report (ITS) for the project. According to Repsol, the investment will be US$1.3mn, it will take 42 days to install the pump, and it will have a useful life of 20 years.

In Peru, companies send an ITS to Senace when proposed modifications will not have a significant environmental and social impact, unlike modifications to environmental impact studies that require a more exhaustive evaluation.

The ITS was prepared by engineering consultancy Inspectra and can be downloaded in the Documents box in the top-right corner of the screen. 

“From the evaluation of the environmental impacts, it is concluded that the negative effects on the environment, derived from the execution of the project that is the subject of this ITS, are equal to or less than the effects of the environmental impacts of the approved EIS,” reads the document.
