Research projects worth US$698k for Santa Catarina

Brazil's government and local private companies plan to invest 2.1mn reais (US$698,000) to develop software research in the state of Santa Catarina (SC), the science and technology ministry (MCT) said in a statement. The MCT's investment arm Finep will provide 800,000 reais, the SC state tech fund Funcitec 900,000 reais and participating companies will donate 400,000 reais. The program will include the cities of Florianópolis, Joinville and Blumenau. A study by sector companies has come up with 12 research projects, involving software development tools, software export standards, cost management tools, support and intellectual property. The program also foresees the creation of an intelligence group to identify new technologies of use to IT and communications sector companies.
