Rio governor opposes oil pipeline

Rio de Janeiro state governor Rosinha Garotinha said she will block the construction of an oil pipeline from Rio de Janeiro to Sao Paulo state, business daily Jornal do Commercio reported. "The government of Rio de Janeiro will fight with all its strength to stop [federal energy company] Petrobras from constructing the oil pipeline connecting the Campos basin to Sao Paulo, going through some 20 municipalities in the state," she was quoted as saying. Rio is lobbying hard to host a new refinery planned by Petrobras, but sees the chances of a new refinery, as well as tax revenues, disappearing if the oil pipeline is built.
