Roundup: Argentine renewables, El Salvador call, Fortis Caribbean

Argentine province Santa Fe's governor Antonio Bonfatti announced plans to launch tenders for wind projects in Rufino and Venado Tuerto, and solar projects in Tostado and San Cristóbal.

The official made the announcement after swearing in Jorge Mario Álvarez as new provincial energy secretary.

Thirty-one solar, two biogas and two hydro projects were selected in El Salvador's 15MW renewable energy call, local paper La Gráfica reported, citing information from power and telecommunications regulator Siget.

Solar will supply 12.76MW, biogas 0.45MW and hydro 0.5MW, said the report. Bids fell below the US$331/MWh cap with the lowest price at US$125/MWh and an average US$165/MWh.

And Fortis (TSX: FTS) reported 2013 net earnings from its Caribbean-regulated power utilities of Cdn$23mn (US$21mn), up Cdn$4mn from the previous year, and higher production from its non-regulated hydroelectric asset in Belize. Group financials are available here.
