Former Belize Bank corporate manager Rudolph Castillo and Czech Republic energy corporation Ekol have partnered to develop a 30MW project in the Central American country, local paper Amandala reported.

The plant would take two years to build and first use wood chips and then the hard shell of the cohune nut.

Erste Corporate Banking would provide financing for the Cohune Energy joint venture, Castillo was quoted as saying. The company tabled a bid in the country's latest power supply call.

Chile's energy ministry and state oil company Enap inked an energy efficiency cooperation agreement under which the NOC pledges to implement energy audit recommendations.

Peru's economy and finance ministry is accepting expressions of interest to identify hydroelectric projects in the Apurímac, Madre de Dios, Purús, Grande, Chili, Tambo and Titicaca basins, and review the power sector regulatory framework, both as part of IDB-financed sustainable energy resources program Prosemer.

And in a letter to the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, senator Marco Rubio asked the watchdog to advance a review of Aguirre Offshore Gasport's Puerto Rico LNG project, which "is nearly six months behind schedule," according to the lawmaker.
