Roundup: Colombia data bill, Bolivia mobile service, Brazil connectivity programs
Data Law
Colombia's lower house approved a bill to promote the use of data and artificial intelligence to help make government decisions.
The bill was submitted by the ICT ministry, which wants Colombia to become a data producer. “We have a State that does not make decisions based on data, where each entity does not have a data policy. We need these entities to be able to produce data and be able to separate, classify and make it interoperable,” minister Mauricio Lizcano said during the parliamentary debate.
The bill still must be approved by the senate.
Colombia-Japan Collaboration
Colombia and Japan signed an MOU on information and communications technologies.
The MOU will be valid for three years and promotes the exchange of know-how related to connectivity and artificial intelligence, as well as sharing technical knowledge on the development of telecoms infrastructure and broadband networks.
Control
Bolivia's IT regulator ATT has identified areas with poor mobile service near the busiest routes in La Paz.
ATT measured services provided by Entel, Tigo and Viva, together with personnel from the companies. The regulator instructed the operators to implement improvements.
Connectivity Program
Brazil's Anatel has extended the deadline to participate in the public consultation for the Meaningful Connectivity, Digital Ecosystem and Performance Excellence programs until October 18.
The contributions will help define strategic projects for the 2025-26 management plan.
