Roundup: computer centers, Cantv, WAPA

US Virgin Islands' next generation network viNGN has finalized the locations of 30 public computer centers, local press reported. The computer centers are funded through a federal stimulus grant and will be located in libraries, housing communities and nonprofit organizations across the territory. According to the report, the centers will have computers, software, printers, servers and accessories. *** Venezuela's state-run telecoms operator Cantv is in the process of deploying 6,000km of fiber optic across the country, the telco said in a statement. These works will be completed by mid-2013, Cantv president Manuel Fernández said. The telco currently has 12,000km of fiber optic infrastructure across the national territory, according to the report. *** US Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority ( WAPA) has launched a free smartphone application for customers to pay their bills on the go, local press reported. So far, the new app only works for Android phones because of its compatibility with WAPA's online payment software, WAPA spokeswoman Cassandra Dunn said. However, WAPA expects to update the software soon to allow iPhone users to pay using the app, she said.
