Mobile operators in Dominican Republic will generate revenues of more than US$7bn in 2011-16, according to a study by telecoms consultancy firm Signals Telecom Consulting. The study states that mobile operators are focusing their strategies on the migration of subscribers from prepaid to postpaid services. Operators are also boosting 3G offerings, Signals said. *** Canadian firm Wikibuli Communications has opened a call center in Dominica, the island nation's government said in a statement. The new facility will employ 150 people, the government said. Investment to set up the new call center totaled 1.2mn Eastern Caribbean dollars (US$444,000). The multilingual call center will provide services to North America. *** Smartphones and social phones accounted for 48% of total mobile phones sold in Argentina in the first half of the year, according to a study by telecoms consultancy Carrier y Asociados. In the first half of 2010, these two categories accounted for 28% of total phones sold in the country, the consultancy said. Basic phones accounted for 20% of total phones sold in the country in the half, down from 38% in 1H10.
