Roundup: Geothermal authorizations, wind atlas, financing

Peru's energy and mines ministry to date has granted 18 geothermal exploration authorizations to Eco Energy (8), Magma Energía Geotérmica Perú (6), Hot Rock Perú (3) and Andes Power Perú (1), according to a ministry update. Eco's authorizations are for zones in regions Ayacucho and Puno; Arequipa, Ayacucho, Moquegua, Puno and Tacna for Magma; Ancash, Moquegua and Puno for Hot Rock; and Tacna for Andes. Companies have until 2014 to complete studies. *** Ecuador's power and renewable energy ministry invited Meteosim Truewind, Barlovento Recursos Naturales, Universidad San Francisco de Quito's Centro de Transferencia y Desarrollo de Tecnologías and Empresa Regional de Energías Renovables y Desarrollo Humano to submit offers to prepare a wind atlas, BNamericas has learned. The contract is due to be awarded next month and the winner will have 120 days to carry out the work, according to bidding information. *** And Belize's government and the EU signed a contract for a 5.5mn Belizean dollar (US$2.8mn) grant to help utility BEL extend the power grid.
