Roundup: Tigo TV, Virgin Islands broadband network, Fitch

Paraguayan pay TV provider Tigo has transmitted its first program in 3D, local paper Ultima Hora reported. The program, Winter X Games, was broadcast by sports channel ESPN, according to the report. Tigo currently offers 18 HD channels in Paraguay. Last July, the firm acquired cable TV operator Cablevisión. The company is fully owned by Luxembourg-based mobile operator Millicom (Nasdaq: MICC). *** The Virgin Islands' Next Generation Network approved a number of contracts, worth a total of US$7.3mn, most of which will provide for critical construction elements for the territory's first public broadband network, local press reported. All Rounder Systems won two contracts, one for construction on the islands of St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island, worth US$3.26mn, and another for construction on St. Croix, worth US$3.35mn. Other minor contracts were agreed with Evertec, ETI Software and Level 3 Communications. Next Generation Network is a subsidiary of the Virgin Island's Public Finance Authority and was created to oversee the construction and operation of the territory's first open-access broadband network. *** Fitch has affirmed Venezuelan telecoms operator Digitel's ratings at AA- (ven), the ratings firm said in a statement. According to Fitch, the rating action is based on the operator's solid financial profile and credit metrics. At end-September 2012, the operator had a market share of 18.3% in the local mobile telephony market, Fitch said.
