Roundup: UN climate change grant, Quintana Roo potable water, Conagua experience

The Jamaican government has received a US$10mn grant from the UN adaptation fund board for the establishment of a climate change adaptation program, according to a release. Among other things, the project will focus on improving water management for the agricultural sector in the parishes of Westmoreland, Manchester, Clarendon, St Mary, St Ann, Trelawny, and St Thomas. *** Mexico's Quintana Roo state government is investing 39.8mn pesos (US$3mn) in improvements to potable water service in rural areas, according to a release. Funds will be invested in the municipality of Bacalar in the construction and expansion of water pipes, improvements to household connections as well as the perforation of a new well. The works are part of state governor Roberto Borge's ongoing program of potable water improvements. *** The Mexican water commission, Conagua, held a seminar in Peru to share its experiences of water management in Mexico, according to a release. Peru is creating a national water basin committee to manage water across the country and called on Conagua to share its experience in the implementation and regulation of water basin committees as well as municipal, state and national level governance. Examples of Mexican success include the increase of wastewater treatment and the provision of potable water, according to the release.
