Roundup: US$450mn energy projects, wind park grid access
Chile
Two energy projects with a combined price tag of almost US$450mn were filed for environmental review in Chile in recent days.
The bigger of the two is a 240MW Coquimbo region wind project, Quebrada Locayo, submitted by EDF Renewables. The US$396mn initiative includes an associated energy storage system of 300MWh in capacity, according to documents filed with environmental review agency SEA.
Work is penciled in to start in October 2026.
The second was filed by Sphera Energy and involves the installation of a standalone energy storage system in O’Higgins region.
With a price tag of US$45mn and called Dorado, the project calls for 60MW of batteries with five-hour injection duration, for capacity of 300MWh.
Work is scheduled to begin in April 2027.
Argentina
Argentina’s federal energy department authorized the La Rinconada wind project to access the wholesale power market.
With 92.4MW of capacity and involving outlay of US$214mn, the farm will connect to the 132kV Henderson-Olavarría power line of transporter Transba.
Output will power the Buenos Aires steel tube plant of Tenaris unit Siderca.
